Julia (Bray) Boice, 93, of New Britain, widow of Anson M. Boice, passed away Monday (February 22) at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. Julia was born in Hudson, NY and came to the New Britain area in 1941. She worked at the Ideal Restaurant on the Berlin Turnpike and later worked at Kensington Pharmacy for 20 years, retiring in 1976. She volunteered and enjoyed going to the Senior Meetings at the New Britain YWCA for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the New Britain Senior Center. Through the years, Julia crocheted and knitted many items for raffles and for family members. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, scrabble, taking day trips, playing bingo and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune every night.
Surviving are five children and their spouses, James and Alice Boice of Lewes, Deleware; Elizabeth and Gene Parks of Kensington; Patricia and Larry Gorneault of Middletown; and Judith Gross of New Britain. She also leaves two daughters in law, Beverly Boice of Cheshire and Elaine Boice of Newington; two sisters, Dorothy Bravo and Helen Vavrine, both of New York; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Besides her husband Anson, she was predeceased by two sons, Jon Boice and Anson L. Boice and her son-in-law, Richard Gross.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 9:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 195 South Main Street, New Britain. Calling hours are Saturday morning from 8:15 to 9:15 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Britain YWCA, 22 Glen Street, New Britain, CT 06051 or to St. Joseph's Church.
