Bernice (Giles) Hill, 87, of Bloomfield, widow of Severa Hill, passed away Tuesday (February 9, 2010) at the home of her daughter Linda Codrington. Born in Washington, DC, she was a New York City resident for 45 years, until moving to Bloomfield in 2008. Bernice was employed at Chemical Bank in New York City for 25 years retiring in 1985. She was a member of Covent Baptist Church in NYC and NAACP, New York Chapter.
Surviving is a son, Edward Hill and his wife Leonora of Greensboro, North Carolina; a daughter, Linda Codrington and her husband Wesley, Sr. of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Leah McNair and her husband Mike of Greensboro, NC; Sarah Hill also of Greensboro; Joseph and Daniel Codrington of Bloomfield; and a nephew. Besides her husband Severa, she was predeceased by a grandson, Wesley Codrington, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 1 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are Monday evening 6 to 8 PM at Carlson Funeral Home. Please share a note by clicking on "Condolences" at the bottom of this page.
