George I. Abraham, Sr., 87, of New Britain, widower of Elizabeth "Betty" (Sheba) Abraham, passed away Tuesday (September 2, 2008) at his summer home in Westbrook. A lifelong New Britain resident, he loved having family and friends at his Coral Sands summer home for the past 53 years. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1939, George served with the Merchant Marine and the US Army Transport Service during WW II. He retired from Jet Lines Inc. and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 478 for 55 years. George was a lifelong member of the South Church in New Britain and also was a member of Unity Lodge #148, AF&AM.
Surviving is a son, George Abraham Jr. and his wife Julie of Westbrook; two daughters, Lynn Abraham also of Westbrook; and Maria Botelho and her husband Ronald of New Britain; a brother, Edward Abraham and his wife Rosalie of New Britain; the lights of his life, his three grandchildren, Jamie and Casey Abraham, and Evan Botelho; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Betty, he was predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Julia Abraham.
Funeral services are Saturday 10 AM at the South Church, 90 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 4 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Church Memorial Fund or Middlesex Hospice Home Care, 144 East Main Street, Clinton, CT 06413.
